Summer Beach Trip 2017

We went back to  San Destin and stayed at Beachside One 4056 - flr5 - 3BR 2BA 

that we rented from My Vacation Haven again. We really love this condo and it was so nice to go back to a place with familiarity. This time we mixed things up a bit and stayed in New Orleans on the way there. It was really fun! Another nice thing about this trip was that it was just our family. I don't think I realized how much fun that would be. It was so simple to just plan amongst ourselves and not have to think of other families or adults weighing in on plans. We had such a great time. I think we will alternate the beach and mountains every summer if possible. But the beach is so much fun - and very relaxing. 

ITINERARY from 7/11 – 7/17/2017

Tuesday – Left at 9:15 am

Stopped in New Orleans – stayed at JW Marriott (don’t stay here again!) great location but rooms were really small. Try the Courtyard Suites nearby – esp if it has bkfast included

Go get beignets after dinner for dessert (no line!) at Cafe du Monde

Take a horse carriage ride after and have them drop you off at hotel

Go to WW2 museum?

Breakfast at Ruby Slipper? – it was REALLY PRICY and probably not worth it, kids ate nothing

Wednesday – left NO around 9:45

Got to Destin around 2:45 pm

Stopped at Bass Pro Shops while I went to Whole Foods and got some supplies

·      pre-marinated chicken breasts

·      fresh pasts with sauce for dinner the 1^st night

·      fruit is good there – buy it here!

·      Get baked goods too if they look good (cupcakes? Muffins?)

·      Corn on the cob was great there

·      Boston butt for crock pot meal

Went to condo and unloaded.

Kids to beach while I went to Publix Grocery Store (about 10 minutes away)

Thursday – Beach/Pool Day!

Dippin’ dots after lunch at condo

Friday –

Fishing with Captain Blake (actually his brother, Wes) $650 + tip – should we do this again? We never have caught anything. L

Go to breakfast or get donuts at The Donut hole outside (east) of Destin (towards Seaside)

Saturday – Beach/Pool Day!

Dinner at 5 pm at The Mellow Mushroom

Go to The Track after dinner (look for a coupon that was dropped off at condo

Go crabbing on the beach when you return

Sunday – Lazy morning

Watched movies, slept in (it rained outside)

Drive to Seaside for lunch/dinner/shopping

Ice cream at Ben and Jerry’s near the Condo

Monday – head out at 10 am – drive to Beaumont (7 ½ hour drive)

Eat dinner at Pappdeaux near the hotel!

MEALS:

1^st night – spaghetti (with fresh pasta), sauce, garlic bread, broccoli and pre-made kale salad

2^nd night – Balsamic pulled pork sliders, corn on the cob, watermelon

3^rd – grilled chicken, rice a roni, watermelon

4^th -

Beignets at Cafe du Monde. We went in the evening and there was NO line! Awesome! 

Carriage ride was really fun.

Ruby Slipper for breakfast. I think we should skip this next time and find a hotel with breakfast included

We made it! I was at the store while the kids and Matt had fun at the beach
